Mount Trashmore Park, Virginia Beach, VA

On this dreary, rainy day we had to go to Virginia Beach to do a greyhound home visit. Since we were in Virginia Beach, we went to Mount Trashmore Park. It's easily accessible from Interstate 264. Exit at Independence Blvd and take Edwin Drive. The parking lot was filled to capacity--we had to park in an overflow lot. That surprised me considering it was such a rainy day.

The first park of its kind on the East Coast, Mount Trashmore used to be a landfill, where trash from all over the East Coast was piled into trenches.

The City Seal is on Mount Trashmore. There is also a smaller hill called Encore Hill.

You can climb the 72 steps to the top of the hill--but greyhounds don't like steps very much so we stayed on the path! I saw a couple of kids rolling down the hill after they climbed to the top.

We walked on the path around Trashmore Lake.

You could see the buildings of Towne Center in the background of the lake. There were some young girls walking on the path singing Navy cadences. It gave me a little jolt because they looked like they were about 13 years old--made me realize what young people we have in the services protecting our country.

After we had walked 3 miles, Sammy was ready to head back to the van and go home!
